ONE BLACK KING/BURNING INSIDE - DIGITAL SINGLE

2017

Why this happened:
"One Black King" is an updated version of a song from the "Largo" LP. Shannon had been filling in on drums for Leo while he was on tour with Merchandise and that song in particular had taken on a different feel from the original. So we went into the studio and recorded a new version of it. Rather than just singing the song again myself, I thought about getting old friend Matt from Reversal of Man/Light Yourself on Fire to take the lead on it. The song is about cats and who better than another 40 year old cat man to sing it. Besides the fact that Matt and his wife have trapped and neutered their own colony of ferals, Matt is one of my oldest friends and I liked the idea of reuniting with him on some new music almost 20 years since the first time we went on tour together.

"Burning Inside" came about after the dudes started playing a different Ministry song, "Stigmata," at practice one night. About two years go by and we end up doing "Burning Inside" instead, partially because Leo liked the challenge of playing the same two parts for five minutes and partially because it was a little more exciting than "Stigmata." Leo laid down his drums during a session for the third LP and Shannon came in later to fill it out. Knowing Matt’s love of Ministry, I asked him to do the chorus with me while he was there recording the other song. Mark and I then spent hours of studio time deciphering and manipulating tracks into the resulting mess.

LARGO - LP

2017

“Largo” is the second LP offering from Tampa’s MEATWOUND. After a successful run in support of the critically-acclaimed “Addio” debut (including taking home the “Best Heavy” trophy from Creative Loafing’s 2015 Critic’s Choice Awards), the band has returned with seven more songs of ungodly sonic devastation across twelve inches of murky purple vinyl. While a lot of the scuzzy, surging groove of the debut album can be found intact on “Largo,” MEATWOUND has pressed down on the accelerator a bit, resulting in faster and more violent-sounding results this time around.

The aural attack has once again been captured by Dan Byers at Rock Garden Studio (just south of Largo, Florida) with mastering by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound. The visuals have once again been executed by former Florida Man Chris Norris, aka Steak Mtn.

ADDIO - LP

2015

MEATWOUND is a band comprised of former members of Combatwoundedveteran, The Holy Mountain, Headless Dogs, Primate Research, and more. Impossibly dangerous and hardcore as shit, a thundering concoction of 1990s influences drive the MEATWOUND sound; a magnetic gutter wherein the pentatonic, industrialized elements of Fudge Tunnel and Godflesh meet a sordid death metal edge meshing Sepultura and Exit-13, all while a throbbing Big Black-style of hardcore punk gets a scuzzy sci-fi kick in the nuts that harkens The Locust. It’s beyond aggressive, it’s as unruly as a pet store on fire, and, like Warchild from “Point Break,” it’s here to fuck you up.

Addio, MEATWOUND‘s debut, was recorded with Dan Byer at Rock Garden Recording in St. Petersburg, Florida, mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound, and features the twisted artwork of Chris Norris, aka Steak Mtn.
